Approach

Start from the gated track beside the A832 near the east end of Loch a' Bhraoin. Follow the vehicle track to the loch, then continue along its north shore for about 6.5km to Lochivraon. The route has little ascent and can be cycled, although loose gravel, short sandy sections and burns make parts awkward. The Scottish Wildlife Trust reported the building locked for safety work in October 2025 and planned to reopen it for winter. No later authoritative reopening notice was found. Confirm its status with the Trust before relying on it.

History

Records classify Lochivraon as a nineteenth-century shepherd's cottage and an early twentieth-century gamekeeper's house. After the old cottage was modernised for private use, the estate converted a former sheep shed nearby into the public bothy, with sleeping platforms, a stove, running cold water and a bucket-flush toilet. The Scottish Wildlife Trust acquired Inverbroom Estate in 2025 and closed the building temporarily for remedial work.
