Former byre on Letterewe Estate, Fisherfield Forest. Earth floor, no fireplace. Very remote — one of Scotland's most isolated. Estate welcomes walkers.
The normal approach begins in Poolewe and follows the track past Loch Kernsary, then continues through Letterewe to the causeway between Fionn Loch and Dubh Loch. Carnmore is about 18km from Poolewe and takes five to seven hours on foot with an overnight pack. The track is clear for much of the route but becomes rougher near the lochs. The shelter is the low former byre about 200m beyond the white Carnmore lodge, not the lodge itself. It has an earth floor and no fireplace. Carry a tent or bivvy because this is one of the most isolated shelters in Scotland.
