Scalpay Bothy is a daytime shelter and interpretation room, not overnight accommodation. After crossing Scalpay Bridge, follow the signs through the village to the Outend car park. Public vehicles are not allowed beyond it. A well-signed path continues for just over 2km to Eilean Glas and normally takes 20 to 30 minutes. The lighthouse grounds are private, but the path and shelter remain accessible. The building contains seating, a table and local history and wildlife displays.

The North Harris Trust owns the small stone building beside the Eilean Glas lighthouse grounds. It now houses material from Commun Eachdraidh Scalpaigh and equipment for Whale and Dolphin Conservation's Shorewatch project. Eilean Glas has had a lighthouse since 1789, although the operational lighthouse and grounds have separate ownership. The available Trust material does not give the former use or construction date of the shelter building.
