Peanmeanach is no longer an unlocked MBA bothy. It is a keyed, sole-use shelter that must be booked and paid for through Ardnish. The normal approach starts at the lay-by on the A830 and crosses the Ardnish peninsula on foot, taking about 90 minutes to two hours. It can also be reached by suitable kayak. The building has no electricity or running water. Do not plan to enter it without a confirmed booking and the owner's arrival instructions.

The house was built around 1905 for the schoolmistress at Glasnacardoch. It later contained the local post office and returned to croft use after the school closed in 1932. The last residents left in 1943. It then served as a cattle byre, lost its roof and was repaired in the 1960s. The Mountain Bothies Association renovated it in the late 1970s and maintained it as an open bothy until 2020. It reopened in 2021 as a booked, keyed shelter.
